Koole Terminal Botlek is replacing 600 meters of quay wall. The quay is located on the Botlek at the 3rd Petroleumhaven. The construction of a total of 7 new jetties had started back in 2020. The new quay construction consists of a combination wall, with a concrete foundation for piperacks. The design of the sea going jetties is based on the functional specifications developed together with the Port of Rotterdam. Koole is installing new loading-and unloading facilities and hose towers directly on the quay to trans-ship various products, such as renewable diesel, methanol and fatty acid methyl ester (FAME).
The durability of the 3rd Petroleumhaven is significatnly increased with the new quay and jetties, and is now offering safer and more efficient solutions in the storage and trans-shipment of the aforementioned products for the customers of Koole Terminal Botlek. The new building of the new quay and jetties was completed in 2022.
Challenge and approach
The old quay was used for many years. That made the job challenging because of heavy driving conditions in clay soils, and because the soil was compacted from years of use.
For the tougher conditions alongside the tanks, the Woltman 3000PDS with a leader guided 70VM was the perfect combination to drive combi-wall tubes. On spots further away from these structures, and thus less sensitive, our rental PVE 250M was used.
